Ledger Run upgraded its ClinRun platform to streamline how clinical trials manage payments to research sites for “invoiceables” — site costs that fall outside pre-set budgets and are often hard to forecast. The update uses AI, including natural language processing, rules-based reasoning, and large language models, to extract invoice details and match them to approved contract categories. Ledger Run said invoice processing is still heavily manual, including work spent reading and quality-checking PDF documents and entering details, and that this resourcing burden can reach 60% to 70% of payment services staff time for certain scenarios. The company said the new capability is a first step toward automating manual site invoice processing to speed payment workflows without changing site contracting processes.
