In the trial, the company tested SION-719 plus Trikafta versus Trikafta alone using sweat chloride levels as a key pharmacodynamic readout. The regimen did not achieve a statistically significant, placebo-adjusted change on the primary measure, and Sionna said it will no longer advance SION-719 as an add-on therapy. The news triggered a steep market reaction, underscoring how difficult it is to differentiate next-generation CFTR-modulating approaches against Trikafta’s established benchmark.
