An exploratory retrospective study assessing tirofiban in elderly patients with acute ischemic stroke found no statistically significant increase in bleeding events or mortality. The analysis focuses on a common safety concern for glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibition in older populations, where baseline bleeding risk is higher and clinical tradeoffs are more consequential. The results suggest that tirofiban may be used without a detectable incremental safety penalty in this cohort, while the exploratory design still calls for larger, prospective validation to confirm risk magnitude.
