A prospective study reported high performance from a CAIX-targeted PET/CT approach for clear-cell kidney cancer lesion detection. Using [68Ga]Ga-DPI-4452 PET/CT, researchers reported 97.9% lesion detection across clear-cell renal cell carcinoma cases in a prospective multicenter design, compared with 47.1% using [18F]FDG PET/CT. The study frames CAIX targeting as a potentially more tumor-relevant imaging strategy in clear-cell disease where metabolic imaging may underperform. Because this is lesion-detection-focused rather than a fully comparative outcome analysis, the next question for development will be how the imaging signal translates into staging and management decisions. For the biotech and medtech ecosystem, the reported sensitivity differential is a clear signal that target biology-driven imaging can materially affect detection rates and could influence reimbursement and clinical pathways if confirmed in broader cohorts.
