Researchers combined anti-PD-L1 immunotherapy with the PARP inhibitor olaparib to trigger ferroptosis in liver cancer and used a SLC7A11-targeted F-18 PET tracer (F-18 FASu) to visualize treatment response in living tumors. The approach aims to convert ferroptosis induction into directly observable imaging readouts. If validated beyond preclinical models, the strategy could support adaptive oncology: choosing or switching therapies based on early pharmacodynamic activity rather than waiting for tumor shrinkage.
