Clean Cells launched next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based viral safety testing for viral matrices, including viral vectors and recombinant preparations, and simultaneously acquired the French bioinformatics CRO Xegen. The move aims to consolidate data analysis capabilities required to interpret complex sequencing outputs into regulator-ready results. Clean Cells said Xegen will join the company as expert project manager of bioinformatics, analytical methods development and validation, supporting auditability and workflow control from sample through interpreted result. Clean Cells also positioned the timing as aligned with evolving European regulatory expectations for using NGS in viral safety screening. The acquisition is significant for manufacturers and sponsors using viral-vector platforms because it reduces vendor fragmentation between lab sequencing and downstream bioinformatics. With NGS adoption increasingly mainstream under European frameworks, integrated offerings can shorten development and compliance cycles.
