A retrospective University of Colorado Hospital analysis suggests a weekly cladribine plus rituximab approach may outperform a standard daily cladribine schedule in hairy cell leukemia. The small cohort (36 patients) reported higher remission rates and longer time in remission, with fewer hospital visits compared with the typical infusion regimen. Weekly dosing would represent a practical shift if the efficacy and durability signals hold up in prospective trials, particularly for a disease where many patients are managed over long treatment horizons. The emphasis on reduced time in hospital also matters operationally for treatment delivery. For clinicians, the update adds to the growing interest in dose and schedule optimization for established therapies in hematologic malignancies.
