Recursion and Genentech announced plans to co-develop a neuroscience small-molecule discovery program after Genentech exercised a first validated target option from an AI-created validation package. The decision triggers a $3 million milestone payment to Recursion and continues a broader collaboration in which Roche and Genentech use Recursion’s platform to advance multiple programs. The companies say it took 15 months to move from target validation initiation to the validation package for this first option. For each co-developed program, Recursion can earn up to $300 million in milestone payments plus tiered royalties. The deal extends Recursion’s positioning as an AI-driven platform company with pharma validation—especially in neuroscience, where the success rate of early candidates reaching approval remains low.
