Illumina launched the MiSeq i100 Series-CN, a version of its MiSeq i100 sequencer produced in China for the domestic market, as part of its “in China, for China” strategy. The company said the instrument is functionally identical to the global MiSeq i100 while leveraging locally manufactured delivery under “globally consistent quality standards.” The move comes as Illumina remains on China’s Unreliable Entities List even after the Chinese Ministry of Commerce lifted an import ban on sequencers in November 2025. Illumina said local manufacturing could require government approvals depending on how restrictions apply to complete instruments. For biotech labs and vendors, the launch suggests Illumina is trying to reduce friction in instrument access while navigating regulatory constraints tied to trade and compliance.
