The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) and the Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) announced a $20 million grant to establish the Center for Pediatric CRISPR Cures. Building on the success of the first personalized CRISPR treatment for 'Baby KJ,' the center aims to develop bespoke gene editing therapies targeting severe pediatric genetic diseases such as inborn errors of immunity and metabolic disorders. The Center will integrate CRISPR therapeutic design at UC Berkeley with clinical applications at UCSF, seeking scalable approaches to broaden access for families affected by ultra-rare diseases.
