The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Innovative Genomics Institute announced a $20 million grant to establish the Center for Pediatric CRISPR Cures. This center aims to develop personalized gene-editing therapies for severe ultra-rare pediatric genetic diseases, building on the first clinical success of a personalized CRISPR treatment for a metabolic disorder. The initiative will coordinate CRISPR cure design at UC Berkeley and clinical applications at UCSF, targeting inborn errors of immunity and metabolic diseases in children. The Center's goal is to develop scalable and reproducible gene-editing approaches to broaden patient access.
