The offering is designed to compress the development-to-clinic timeline and reduce capital intensity for early biologics programs. SmartScale combines technologies from ATUM and Thomson Instrument to streamline cell line development, process scaleup, and manufacturing execution. GBI says the platform can deliver GMP material in as little as eight months, and it is aligned with the FDA’s Operation TrialBlazer initiative, which aims to modernize drug development and trial readiness. The company’s approach also targets yield and operational complexity through partnerships—ATUM’s Leap-In Transposase cell lines and Thomson’s flasks intended to simplify scaleup while maintaining cell culture performance. For developers, the practical implication is a more standardized route to regulatory-ready material, potentially reducing iteration risk when preparing an IND package. GBI frames SmartScale as a right-sized, stable pool-based system intended for early-stage biologics, with batch reporting and recipe-driven software included to support process documentation needs.
