PTC Therapeutics outbid rivals in a bankruptcy auction to acquire Sangamo’s ST-920 (isaralgagene civaparvovec) gene therapy for Fabry disease. Under the deal terms, Sangamo will receive $111 million upfront and up to $100 million tied to regulatory milestones, following Sangamo’s Chapter 11 filing in June. The acquisition keeps a Fabry program with earlier clinical data in play—ST-920 is designed as a one-time AAV gene therapy to restore alpha-galactosidase A. During the Phase I/II STAAR study, patients on enzyme replacement therapy stopped dosing when they received treatment, with the company highlighting changes in underlying pathology and clinical benefit. Analysts framed the transaction as a higher-risk, potentially higher-reward regulatory bet for PTC, which is positioning the therapy toward an approval path while leveraging existing rare-disease commercial infrastructure.
