Jazz Pharmaceuticals expanded its immuno-oncology discovery footprint by launching a large preclinical collaboration with AbCellera focused on T-cell engaging multispecific antibodies for gastrointestinal cancers and other solid tumors. Under the option and license terms, AbCellera will conduct discovery and early-stage research for two programs and must launch a third discovery program within 12 months. Jazz will receive exclusive development options for each program, and if it exercises the options it gains worldwide rights to develop and commercialize the resulting antibodies. The deal includes $56 million in upfront payments for the first two programs, with an additional $28 million due to start the third discovery program, and potential total value tied to option fees and milestone payments. AbCellera’s role centers on its antibody discovery engine and TCE platform capabilities, including CD3-binding antibody panels and multispecific engineering workflows. Jazz highlighted GI cancers where checkpoint inhibitors have delivered limited durable benefit, positioning the collaboration as a way to broaden the next generation of TCEs. The structure illustrates how large pharma is using modular, option-based partnerships to manage risk while building multiple early shots on goal in high-value immune-oncology categories.
