Moderna reported that its personalized mRNA cancer vaccine, intismeran, improved outcomes in a pivotal Phase 3 melanoma study presented at ESMO in Madrid, marking the first such success for a customized mRNA platform. The program, developed with Merck, represents a major milestone after years of skepticism around the feasibility and breadth of therapeutic cancer vaccines. In interviews tied to the ESMO presentations, Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel said the companies are preparing to submit the vaccine for FDA review and emphasized further testing in additional cancer types. He also described plans to remain disciplined about the vaccine business while extending mRNA-enabled strategies into other areas, including immuno-oncology and select autoimmune concepts.
