Kobe University reported preclinical evidence for mass-produced, off-the-shelf induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived allogeneic gamma delta T cells against colorectal cancer. In a study in Stem Cell Reports, Takashi Aoi and colleagues described iPSC-derived γδT cells that suppressed tumor growth in mouse colorectal cancer xenograft models. The team emphasized practical manufacturing advantages over autologous approaches, citing rapid generation and reproducible cell expansion without animal-derived extracts. The paper also frames γδT cells as an MHC-unrestricted modality capable of recognizing tumor targets without patient-by-patient receptor tailoring. While the work remains early and preclinical, it aligns with the broader push toward scalable “single product” immune cell therapies that could reach solid tumor patients faster and at lower cost than personalized cell manufacturing.
