An international team led by RCSI and The Institute of Cancer Research, London, used an AI tumor mapping tool (iPhenMap) to characterize microsatellite-stable colorectal cancer biology across roughly 2,000 samples. The analysis generated multiomic tumor maps and highlighted previously unrecognized vulnerabilities, including lab-supported drug combinations involving already approved targeted agents. The researchers focused on MSS RAS-mutant disease, describing it as a high-need subgroup with inferior outcomes after standard therapy. They report translational potential based on in vivo models, while emphasizing the findings remain preclinical. For drug developers, the work points to combination strategies that may be repurposed into clinical testing with better biology-based stratification. Key next step in the report: identifying biomarkers predicting response to translate the preclinical vulnerability map into clinical evaluation.
