Boehringer Ingelheim secured an exclusive license to Prime Vector Technologies’ viral vector platform for cancer vaccine research. The deal covers use of Prime Vector’s Orf virus (ORFV) technology, with the financial terms including undisclosed upfront and milestone payments. Prime Vector’s ORFV work has been explored across cancer and infectious diseases, including a COVID-19 program that reached clinical evaluation, providing feasibility, safety, and immunogenicity evidence. Boehringer said it will focus on cancer vaccine development using the platform, while Prime Vector can continue work in infectious diseases and other applications. The agreement extends Boehringer’s long-standing interest in oncolytic virus biology and immunogenicity, even as it manages pipeline decisions for other viral programs. Boehringer has kept its VSV-GP asset in the clinical pipeline but recently suspended a phase 1 study. If ORFV candidates can deliver repeat dosing and robust immune responses with scalable manufacturing, the platform could offer Boehringer a differentiated vaccine backbone for combination strategies in oncology.
