BioCryst outlined a strategy reset after scrapping its internal discovery programs, signaling that future pipeline additions will come primarily through licensing and external deals. The company previously narrowed priorities by discontinuing its DME program and shutting its Discovery Center of Excellence in Birmingham, Alabama. CEO Charlie Gayer said the company’s goal is to add two new programs over the next 18 months while continuing to support R&D through partner-sourced assets rather than internal discovery efforts. The announcement is framed around improving probability of success now that Orladeyo is generating revenue. BioCryst also highlighted that its HAE franchise—Orladeyo—continues to expand, and it pointed to the pipeline progression of an acquired kallikrein inhibitor asset.
