Vertex Pharmaceuticals agreed to acquire Crinetics Pharmaceuticals in a $10 billion cash deal, moving Vertex to a fifth commercial pillar with an endocrine disease focus. The transaction adds the FDA-approved acromegaly therapy Palsonify (paltusotine) plus a late-stage pipeline asset, atumelnant, for congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Crinetics’ marketed drug, Palsonify, is positioned as the commercial anchor, while atumelnant is in Phase III development. Vertex estimates combined peak sales potential of more than $5 billion across the two assets. Analysts flagged the deal price as a key point for debate, but the purchase reflects Vertex’s push to diversify beyond cystic fibrosis and add specialty markets with sustained unmet need. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, with Vertex funding the acquisition using cash plus committed bridge financing.
