A U.S. jury found that Parse Biosciences, a subsidiary of Qiagen, willfully infringed three patents owned by Scale Biosciences (acquired by 10x Genomics in 2025), upholding the validity of those patents. The jury awarded 10x more than $4.8 million in damages for Evercode Whole Transcriptome product sales from February 2021 through June 30, 2026. The verdict also rejected Parse’s defenses and found willful infringement tied to specific patent numbers covering methods of identifying multiple epitopes in cells. 10x said it will seek enhanced damages, attorneys’ fees, and a permanent injunction to stop further U.S. infringement. The case adds another layer to the intensely competitive single-cell and spatial transcriptomics ecosystem, where IP enforcement can directly affect commercialization timelines and product availability for customers.
