cAMPfield Therapeutics launched with an $180 million Series A to develop an oral inflammatory bowel disease therapy, prifemilast, aiming to compete in the long-term oral biologic substitute space. The company framed the program as a PDE4 inhibition approach designed to improve selectivity, targeting PDE4B activity associated with anti-inflammatory effects while reducing PDE4D-related side effects. cAMPfield said prifemilast originated with vTv Therapeutics, then moved through licensing into Newsoara Biopharma for parts of Asia before expanding worldwide rights. The new company now holds rights outside China as it advances the program. The company positioned its strategy against existing IBD therapies by citing persistent gaps in deep, durable remission and ongoing discontinuation due to safety or effectiveness limitations. It also referenced tolerability data in psoriasis trials, including discontinuation rates comparable to placebo. Key leadership includes Bill Gerhart as CEO and founder-executives with prior gastroenterology development and commercialization experience, including Asit Parikh and Keith Usiskin.
