Eli Lilly agreed to acquire 4E Therapeutics, a startup developing non-opioid pain programs built around MNK inhibitors and the MNK-eIF4E signaling axis. Lilly said the deal expands its early pipeline for neuropathic pain, migraine, and acute pain, with the company emphasizing non-addictive potential. 4E’s lead asset 4ET1103 has completed early human safety data, and 4E also has programs including experimental migraine and acute pain candidates. Lilly noted its broader pace of acquisitions in the pain area, following other purchases such as SiteOne Therapeutics. The acquisition highlights continued strategic appetite for mechanism-diverse pain therapeutics as big pharma seeks options beyond opioids—despite recent pain R&D setbacks across the industry.
