A report by Northwestern University’s Reese Richardson and colleagues found widespread photo editing in commercial antibody catalogs, implicating more than 15 companies and identifying nearly 19,000 doctored antibody images online. The investigation points to catalog images that appear replicated across products and validation assays such as Western blots and immunofluorescence. The analysis reported that 83% of the examined antibody products with manipulated photos failed at least one listed application in open science community validation efforts. Several vendors, including Thermo Fisher Scientific, were highlighted for scale of affected images and background-pattern similarities across products.
