Eli Lilly extended its China innovation push by signing a discovery-stage collaboration with Beijing-based InnoCare Pharma. The agreement is valued at up to $3.35 billion, with reported upfront and near-term payments up to $100 million and milestones potentially reaching $3.25 billion, plus royalties on sales. Under the pact, InnoCare will use its drug discovery platform to identify and advance compounds against as many as five undisclosed targets, while Lilly gains rights to further develop and commercialize resulting candidates. The deal continues a series of China-focused alliances Lilly has executed since early 2025. Strategically, it adds another set of early-stage assets to Lilly’s portfolio sourcing from China’s biotech ecosystem, at a time when global competition is increasingly shaped by who can consistently convert external innovation into clinical programs.
