Novartis entered a licensing agreement with Alteogen for its hyaluronidase-based subcutaneous drug delivery platform, centered on ALT-B4 (berahyaluronidase alfa). The deal allows Novartis to develop and commercialize subcutaneous formulations across multiple products using Alteogen’s Hybrozyme technology. ALT-B4 is designed to temporarily break down hyaluronan in the extracellular matrix, improving dispersion and absorption of co-administered biologics to reduce dependence on slow intravenous infusions. Novartis joins a growing set of large pharma partners that have sought subcutaneous alternatives for oncology and other high-value biologics. The agreement continues a broader theme of platform-led out-licensing, where delivery improvements can change dosing convenience, treatment settings, and potentially overall healthcare utilization.
