Vertex announced it will acquire Crinetics Pharmaceuticals in a $10 billion deal, the largest in Vertex’s history, as the cystic fibrosis leader extends beyond its anchor franchise into endocrinology. The transaction values Crinetics at about $85 per share in cash and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026. The purchase adds Crinetics’ commercial acromegaly therapy Palsonify (paltusotine) and a late-stage pipeline asset, atumelnant, a phase III oral ACTH receptor antagonist being developed for congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). Vertex said the combined peak sales potential for the two programs could exceed $5 billion. Analysts have focused on how Vertex will deploy its commercialization infrastructure to scale specialty endocrinology therapies with rare-disease-like patient bases, and on the implied strategy shift toward a multi-pillar portfolio. Both companies said their boards unanimously approved the deal.
