Novartis has agreed to license Abogen Biosciences’ mRNA-encoded T-cell engager ABO2203 in a deal worth $575 million upfront, with total potential milestones of roughly $7.8 billion. The exclusive worldwide arrangement expands Novartis’ autoimmune pipeline with an in vivo approach designed to reset B cells through CD19xCD3 engager activity. The program is built on Abogen’s proprietary RNA platform, using mRNA to instruct production of the engager inside the body rather than delivering a recombinant protein. Novartis also receives options to license additional next-generation assets from Abogen across the platform. The transaction signals continued large-cap prioritization of early-stage, platform-driven immunology bets in China, especially as companies seek differentiated mechanisms ahead of patent cliffs. Abogen characterized the pact as a milestone for scaling its RNA platform beyond prophylactic vaccines.
