BioMarin agreed to acquire worldwide rights up to $475 million for a next-generation Fabry disease enzyme replacement therapy, HM15421/GC1134A (also known as LA-GLA). The program combines Hanmi’s long-acting drug technology with GC Biopharma’s enzyme replacement expertise, aiming to extend how long the recombinant alpha-galactosidase A enzyme remains in the body. Under the deal, GC and Hanmi keep commercialization rights in Korea and are responsible for regulatory approval efforts, while BioMarin receives worldwide rights. GC and Hanmi are eligible for development and commercial milestones totaling up to $405 million, plus tiered royalties on net sales, with milestones split between the two South Korean companies. The candidate is in a Phase I/II study (NCT06858397) and is being developed as a subcutaneous injection. BioMarin positioned HM15421/GC1134A as an “excellent fit” to expand its clinical portfolio after the company’s earlier acquisition of Amicus this year.
