MGI Tech launched Genoria AI, a new AI subsidiary tasked with developing and commercializing lab tools that can plan and execute experiments autonomously. The China-based next-generation sequencing instrumentation maker positioned the unit as an AI-native biology signal for both the public and capital markets, with plans to expand to international markets next year. Genoria will build “AI lab agents” that combine large language models with lab automation platforms to run closed-loop workflows—from scientific goals to protocol creation, instrument-executable code, and outcome-driven refinement. In a proof-of-concept described in an ArXiv preprint, the system handled 294 intent-to-code tasks and wet-lab workflows spanning increasing complexity in molecular and synthetic biology. The effort remains in progress, with Genoria focusing on training the system’s understanding of experiments using human expert input. The announcement highlights how instrumentation companies are moving beyond hardware into agentic workflow layers that could reshape how experimental throughput and iteration speed are achieved in biology.
