Opentrons Labworks raised $40 million in a Series E financing round led by healthcare investor Avego, with additional investment from BroadOak Capital Partners. The company said it will use the capital to scale robotics, software, and data infrastructure supporting AI-driven experimental workflows. Opentrons plans to invest in systems that integrate AI with robotics to design, execute, and learn from scientific experiments, including AI-based experimental execution and faster protocol development. It also aims to extend automation capabilities and deepen integration across lab automation ecosystems. The financing builds on the company’s earlier work integrating NVIDIA’s Isaac and Cosmos platforms for training data to deploy physical AI-enabled lab robotics. Opentrons said it has already deployed more than 11,000 robots in over 80 countries across academic, diagnostic, and pharma customers. The raise underscores how lab automation vendors are positioning to serve both traditional drug discovery teams and AI-first biopharma programs that need higher-throughput experimental data at reduced cycle times.
