ARUP launched a public-facing dashboard tracking weekly positive results for selected infectious disease tests, aiming to close gaps in digital epidemiology. The system provides de-identified, aggregated data by US state along with percent changes in weekly positivity, with weekly updates. ARUP said the dashboard begins with molecular assays and other targeted tests, including Bordetella pertussis/parapertussis PCR, Streptococcus pneumoniae urine antigen, varicella-zoster virus PCR, and PCR tests for Babesia microti, Ehrlichia chaffeensis, and Anaplasma phagocytophilum. The initiative was prompted in part by ARUP’s observation of Bordetella pertussis test surges in 2024 ahead of official outbreak notifications. ARUP’s medical director Ben Bradley said the approach could help clinicians and labs spot caseload surges sooner and validate local trend signals. For diagnostics stakeholders, the product tests whether real-world lab data can accelerate pathogen surveillance outside federal notification pathways—potentially improving timing of testing decisions and infection control actions.
