Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals reported positive top-line results from two late-stage phase III trials of plozasiran (Redemplo) in severe hypertriglyceridemia, with data described as a “best-case scenario” and supportive of a supplemental NDA filing before year-end. The findings build on Arrowhead’s rare-disease approval in familial chylomicronemia syndrome, aiming to broaden use to a larger population. Across the two studies, participants receiving plozasiran showed median triglyceride reductions of 79% and 81% after one year, versus roughly 27% in placebo-treated patients. The company also reported a pooled reduction in acute pancreatitis events of 78% compared with control arms, with no clinically meaningful adverse changes in key safety metrics described in the topline release. Arrowhead said it plans to formally seek label expansion for severe hypertriglyceridemia and characterized the safety, efficacy, and dosing convenience profile as favorable versus expectations.
