ARPA-H awarded up to $125 million under its Genetic Medicines and Individualized Manufacturing for Everyone (GIVE) program, funding teams to build a domestic, automated network for on-demand RNA-based genetic medicines. The effort targets low-cost manufacturing with quality control testing integrated at or near the point of care. The program distributes work across multiple institutions: Massachusetts General Hospital will develop a single-use all-fluidics chip system for continuous manufacturing and QA; Centillion Biosciences will lead an end-to-end cartridge-based architecture for RNA/DNA manufacturing and fill-finish QC; and HDT Bio will develop automated DNA synthesis and chip-based RNA production with autonomous lot release testing. Separate teams will build a fully automated continuous-flow system for RNA drug products and an all-in-one platform for same-day complete quality control and lot release. The funding reinforces that “factory automation” and embedded analytics are becoming central to the feasibility of personalized RNA therapies at scale.
