GE Healthcare and DNA Script won up to $26 million from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ ARPA-H under the Advanced Manufacturing Incubator for DNA program. The four-year initiative backs GE Healthcare’s FLASH system, an automated, modular approach aimed at enzymatic—rather than chemical or cell-based—DNA synthesis. DNA Script will contribute its enzymatic DNA synthesis technology and its SYNTAX benchtop nucleic acid platform. The program targets faster, more flexible DNA manufacturing to support personalized medicines, vaccines, and other genetic medicine applications across U.S. research centers and universities. ARPA-H’s focus on translation is reflected in the deployment intent: a scalable automation platform that can be adopted by medical research centers and federal agencies, rather than remaining a lab-only method. DNA Script CEO Marc Montserrat and GE Healthcare’s John Nelson framed the program as shortening the path from bench research to patient use.
