A new diagnostic approach described a mild detergent method that preserves bacteria for rapid sepsis susceptibility testing. The workflow aims to cut time to results in bloodstream infection management, where delays can translate into rapid deterioration and mortality. By stabilizing samples for downstream susceptibility workflows, the approach addresses a practical bottleneck in clinical microbiology: preparing specimens without degrading or altering key traits needed for accurate testing. Faster testing would allow clinicians to narrow or adjust antimicrobial choices earlier in the sepsis course. For antimicrobial stewardship teams, the innovation could improve turnaround times while supporting better-targeted therapy decisions when broad-spectrum empiric coverage can no longer be justified.
