The World Health Organization unveiled a six-month Bundibugyo Ebola response plan focused on scaling point-of-care molecular testing in Africa while strengthening reference labs. WHO said the program will expand a point-of-care molecular test system provided by South Korea-based KH Medical, alongside efforts for diagnostic testing and sequencing-based surveillance. WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said total investment for the effort is about $518 million. Africa CDC director-general Jean Kaseya highlighted that the outbreak already surpasses prior Bundibugyo events in case counts at similar time points, reinforcing the central role of rapid detection in controlling transmission.
