A validated two-stage blood-biomarker algorithm reduced the need for amyloid PET imaging in an Alzheimer’s triage study by resolving more uncertain p-Tau217 results while preserving PET for patients who still fall into residual uncertainty categories. The approach is designed to lower imaging burden by using blood tests to make earlier decisions. In practice, the strategy aims to avoid unnecessary PET scans when p-Tau217 clarifies amyloid status, while still retaining imaging where blood results remain ambiguous. The result is intended to improve throughput and reduce cost without materially changing diagnostic sensitivity. For biotech, the study adds momentum for next-generation diagnostic pathways that combine blood assays with selective imaging—an area where assay performance across populations and pre-analytic variability typically determines real-world feasibility.
