Researchers used AlphaFold3 to map monkeypox virus surface proteins and identified OPG153 as a previously unrecognized neutralizing antibody target. The team isolated neutralizing antibodies from vaccinated or convalescent human sera and matched them to predicted structural epitopes; mice immunized with OPG153 generated neutralizing responses against MPXV. The work, published in Science Translational Medicine, presents a single‑protein vaccine antigen candidate that could be cheaper and simpler to manufacture than whole‑virus preparations.
