The Allen Institute released the Brain Knowledge Platform (BKP), an open database aggregating and standardizing datasets from more than 34 million brain cells across 22 species and coupling them with AI models to accelerate neuroscience research. The platform—developed with AWS infrastructure and Google‑built AI tools—creates a searchable, multimodal resource for single‑cell and spatial transcriptomics, enabling cross‑species comparisons and rapid hypothesis generation. Allen Institute scientists said BKP provides a consistent cell‑type language and tools for researchers to query cell behavior in health and disease, potentially speeding target identification and translational work in neurodegeneration and psychiatric disorders. The resource is publicly available and aims to reduce redundancy across labs by harmonizing disparate datasets.
