Researchers at Colorado State University described an AI-driven workflow to modify antibodies so they act as intracellular fluorescent probes, enabling visualization of specific protein activities in living cells. The method combines model-guided antibody engineering with live‑cell imaging to track gene-expression errors and other dynamic processes. The team reports that AI-optimized antibodies can be converted into functional reporters faster than traditional protein engineering routes, lowering the barrier to building intracellular probes. This capability could accelerate basic research, drug discovery assays and high-content screening by enabling new real-time readouts inside living cells.
