Relation Therapeutics secured up to $110 million in a research collaboration with GSK to generate large-scale cellular perturbation data for cellular foundation models. The deal also includes Relation’s MORGAN, a general-purpose cellular foundation model built to predict how cells respond to genetic and pharmacological interventions across multiple disease-relevant cell contexts. Relation will use automated laboratories to generate petascale multiomic perturbation datasets intended for high-throughput, consistent measurement—aiming to provide training signals beyond what conventional workflows deliver. The companies did not specify the disease focus areas, positioning the collaboration as a platform data-and-model effort for drug target discovery. The agreement adds to a broader push by large pharma to build modelable cellular datasets that can improve confidence in target selection and candidate biology. For GSK, it’s another bet that model-driven biology can accelerate discovery and reduce target risk.
