Recursion and Genentech announced plans to co-develop a neuroscience small-molecule early discovery program built around the first validated target discovered through an AI-based map created by Recursion, Roche, and Genentech. Genentech exercised its validation target option after receiving a validation package from Recursion. The acceptance triggered a $3 million milestone payment, raising total cash paid by Genentech and Roche to Recursion to $216 million since the partnership began in 2021. Under the broader agreement, Recursion can receive development and commercial milestone payments tied to each program plus tiered royalties. The collaboration highlights how pharma is increasingly turning AI discovery into validated, partnered early programs in therapy areas with historically low translation rates.
