Zealand Pharma has signed a multi-target collaboration with Generate Biomedicines to design protein therapeutics for obesity and other metabolic diseases, using Generate’s generative AI and high-throughput experimental validation platform. The companies plan to create multispecific candidates with tailored biological functions. Generate will receive $30 million up front for two initial programs, with up to $35 million in early preclinical milestones, and eligibility for as much as $1.2 billion across development, regulatory and commercialization stages. Zealand can add a third program via option. The collaboration structure is notable for how it matches roles: Generate leads research through lead-candidate selection, while Zealand takes clinical development, regulatory submissions and worldwide commercialization. The deal underscores continued shift toward protein-centric AI workflows in cardiometabolic pipelines.
