AstraZeneca is partnering with Oracle to use AI and real-world data to identify and recruit patients for clinical trials faster, spanning oncology, cardiovascular, renal and metabolic, respiratory, immunology, and rare disease studies. The first collaboration—through Abu Dhabi-headquartered M42—is focused on using AI to identify patients with uncontrolled hypertension for upcoming clinical work. AstraZeneca said the system will use an AI model across clinical research and routine-care data to inform study design, safety monitoring and patient care measures. The companies plan reusable technical components and outcome measures to assess transferability across disease areas and geographies. The effort signals how trial execution is becoming a data-governance and workflow problem as much as a scientific one—especially where patient identification bottlenecks can delay pivotal readouts.
