ARPA-H awarded up to $125 million under its Genetic Medicines and Individualized Manufacturing for Everyone (GIVE) program to build a domestic, automated network for manufacturing individualized, on-demand RNA-based genetic medicines. The funding targets production platforms, integrated automated quality control, and same-day testing and lot release. The program’s work packages assign roles across major institutions: Massachusetts General Hospital for a single-use all-fluidics chip system; Centillion Biosciences for an end-to-end cartridge-based manufacturing and fill-finish/quality architecture; HDT Bio for automated DNA synthesis plus chip-based RNA production and embedded process analytical technologies; Waterfall Scientific for a continuous-flow benchtop system; and the University of Utah for multi-parametric testing at small scales. The initiative matters for biotech operators because it frames a national infrastructure approach to automation, quality systems and near-point-of-care release—areas that have been bottlenecks for RNA therapies moving from prototype to scalable deployment.
