AstraZeneca is partnering with Oracle to use AI and real-world data to speed patient recruitment for clinical trials. The collaboration will apply an AI model to data from clinical research and routine care, with the aim of improving study design, safety monitoring processes, and patient care measures. The first stated collaboration is with Abu Dhabi-headquartered healthcare firm M42, focused on identifying patients with uncontrolled hypertension for a planned hypertension study in Europe, the US, and the Middle East. AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soriot said the approach should help clinicians identify patients sooner and generate evidence continuously across a medicine’s lifecycle. The deal signals intensifying efforts by large pharma to operationalize AI beyond internal analytics, pushing it into the recruitment pipeline where timing and cohort quality directly shape trial execution and timelines.
