Researchers have developed AI models capable of distinguishing laryngeal cancer from benign vocal cord lesions through detailed acoustic feature analysis of voice recordings. Utilizing datasets from the NIH Bridge2AI program, the study identified the harmonic-to-noise ratio as a key indicator differentiating cancerous from benign conditions. This non-invasive diagnostic advancement offers promise for accessible early detection of voice box cancer, potentially reducing reliance on invasive procedures like endoscopy, and improving outcomes especially in underserved regions.
