AbbVie agreed to acquire Apogee Therapeutics for about $10.9 billion, adding zumilokibart (APG777), a long-acting, subcutaneous IL-13–targeting monoclonal antibody, to AbbVie’s immunology portfolio. Apogee’s lead asset is in Phase II APEX testing for atopic dermatitis and also includes respiratory development plans for an IL-13–directed program combination in asthma, supported by earlier efficacy and itch reduction data. The acquisition also includes additional pipeline assets such as APG273, positioning AbbVie to extend its franchise ahead of future competitive pressure in immunology categories. With the deal structured as cash-and-equity payments and supported by Apogee’s recently secured financing for further development, the transaction provides AbbVie faster access to late-stage clinical differentiation rather than relying solely on internal discovery timelines.
